Teaching at Agamim Classical Academy
Agamim Classical Academy is a K-8, public charter school. We opened with grades K-4 in the 2015-2016 school year and graduated our first class of 8th graders in the spring of 2020 (via Zoom!). We train teachers to teach the classical subjects of grammar, logic, and rhetoric along with the Core Knowledge curriculum sequence for science, history, geography, spelling, literature, and the arts. Our math program is Saxon Math. Students study classical languages with a specialist teacher (Latin, Greek, and Modern Hebrew), but no knowledge of these languages is required for the elementary teacher positions. Classical teachers learn to teach students to think critically and wisely through exposure to challenging literature and primary source material, Socratic-style questioning, and memorization techniques. All of our students study and uphold our five core virtues of Fortitude, Gratitude, Joyfulness, Temperance, and Wisdom which prepare children for a life enriched with Truth, Beauty and Goodness. We are a public school that prizes the American virtues of Liberty and E pluribus unum, and we see developing wise, articulate, compassionate adult citizens active in civic life as a high purpose of classical education.
Agamim Classical Academy seeks faculty who are excited to become masters in their content areas and who have strong reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Classical education is challenging and requires a curious, engaging, steady, creative, organized, and joyful teacher who loves to learn and works hard to see all students meet and exceed their potential. Candidates with experienced leadership in extracurricular activities is a plus. We strive to create a school environment that is orderly, refined, and thoughtful, and the teaching culture is formal and professional.
